How To Take Care Of A Kitten
Raising a kitten correctly ensures that it will grow up to be a strong, healthy, and active cat, who will bring years of joy and affection into your life. The following steps will show you how to take care of a kitten.
By 10-12 weeks kittens should be fully weaned and ready to leave their mother. Remember that this is a very stressful time for your pet. Transport your kitten to its new home using a cat carrier lined with a blanket or towel. If the kitten is especially frightened, try confining it to a single room for the first few days, allowing to get accustomed to its new surroundings and gain in confidence. Introduce your kitten slowly to other family members and pets.
If possible, find out which brand of food the breeder has been feeding the kitten - a sudden change in diet can result in an upset stomach. Changing the variety of food should be done gradually, with a small amount of the new food mixed in with the old. Always use high-quality kitten food. Give your kitten access to both wet and dry food - both types have nutritional benefits. As well as food, a kitten needs constant access to fresh, clean water. Do not give your cat cow's milk. If you wish to give milk, then use one formulated specially for cats.
Kittens can be trained to use a litterbox from as early as 4 weeks. Cats enjoy privacy when using their litterbox, so locate it somewhere quiet, away from high-traffic areas. There are numerous variety of litter types available. If possible, match the kind of litter used by the breeder. This will help the kitten settle in and avoid any unnecessary accidents.
A cat bed is not essential but most kittens will like having a place that they feel is their own. Like all young animals, kittens will sleep for a lot of the time. A great variety of styles of bed are available but it is recommended that the bed be fully washable so that you can keep it clean.
Grooming your kitten with a brush or comb can begin as soon as you bring it home. Regular handling like this will help your kitten get used to human contact.
Visiting the veterinarian is an important part of how to take care of a kitten. An initial exam can be carried out as early as 8 weeks. The veterinarian should vaccinate your kitten against Feline respiratory disease and Feline Infectious Enteritis. A kitten should never be allowed outside until it has received these vaccinations. Prior to reaching sexual maturity, your kitten should be neutered. Beyond this, yearly check-ups are recommended to keep your cat healthy.
Play with your kitten every day. Their are a myriad of toys available, but you'll soon find out which types your kitten enjoys best. House cats are social animals and daily exercise will help your kitten stay fit and happy.

Questions & Answers about Toys Cats Kittens
What's your cats/kittens favourite toy?
Mine have several favorites, but the one that gets a lot of use, is a set of nylon cubes that you can buy at the Target store.
These come in a very small, flat packet but are "spring loaded" and snap into shape with just a twist after you take the velcro band off them. There are holes in each end of the cube and one side, with velcro fastenings around the edge, and velcro strips in the package.
You can fasten your two cubes together for playtime, then simply undo them and flattern them down again to store away in a drawer. For extra fun, buy two or even three sets and create a tunnel that turns corners. They have great fun running through it and poking paws in and out to get at other cats. They're an excellent value too, at $8.95 for the two cubes.
What are some fun things to do with your kitten? Are there some games - or some toys your cats love?
So my kitten is 6 months & hes a ragdoll - even though i doubt that matters.
He loves playing because all day 24 7 he walks around loudly complaining about the fact that he wants to play with something new. He doesn't play with any of his balls or mice but he loves his wand toy .. but sometimes he gets bored with it . He does play fetch but only when he wants to. I was wondering if there are any games your cats love to play or any toys your cats love? i havent tried catnip yet but i will. I also take him outside on a leash because i dont want to let my cat roam all alone.. if he ever gets lost i'll feel like its my fault and it will be : right now .. hes complaining .. and i have no idea what to do. I want to do something fun with him =) maybe something we will both love.
And in general what are some good things to buy for cats to make their life .. better cause my cat is not interested in his scratching post at all .
Thank you =)
I have a two-year old Ragdoll. She loves twine, so I cut a big piece of it and just put it out there for her. I never leave it - so I am always around when she is playing with it - she sometimes tries to eat it. She also has a little stuffed animal that hangs from a string from the door that she loves - I bought it at PetSmart - can't remember exactly what it is called. And she also has these little stuffed mice she likes to scoot along the floor. My cat complains, too, when no one is playing with her - when I come from home from work, if I don't play with her within the first 15 minutes of being home, she starts to act out, either by racing around the house, meowing constantly, or deciding to scratch either furniture or door frames, all in my presence, of course.

Some cats will never do well with a second cat, and it becomes more difficult for them to adapt the older they get. If your cat has been an only cat for 9 years, she may never do well with another cat in the home. That said, what method of introduction did you use?
Cats generally do better when they're introduced slowly. When you bring a new cat into the home, it should be isolated to a single room with food, water and a litter box for at least a week. Don't use a room like your bedroom or another "favorite" room of your cat so your cat won't feel as if their favorite places are being taken over. Let them sniff, growl and hiss from underneath the door to start becoming familiar with one another. After a week, let the new cat out of the room under close supervision for about an hour. Hissing, growling, spitting and all sorts of noise is normal and to be expected. Let them do it. Only intervene if they actually begin to fight and harm one another. After an hour, place the new cat into his/her safe room and offer your older cat lots of affection and reassurance. Repeat this process each day, increasing the amount of time that the new cat is out. Once they're able to remain together for about 6-8 hours without incident, it should be fine to leave the new cat out all the time. It will take time and patience, but it may work for you if you don't try to rush things.
Try to adopt a cat that is closer in age to your cat now so their activity levels will be similar. Older cats are often quite put off by young kittens who annoy them and try to play all the time. I've introduced many cats to one another over the years, and have only had one who absolutely couldn't tolerate other cats when introduced properly. This particular cat was a feral, so there was quite a bit more involved than just introductions… he had to first be socialized to people. He did end up doing quite well in a home as the only pet.
