Advice for good cat toys for an active cat?

My husband and I are the proud parents of a SPCA kitty cat who is 1 year and 4 months old. She is very sweet and loving and loves to cuddle and sleep most of the day and night, however, for about an hour or two every morning and night she gets full of so much energy she runs around like a sprinter and gets into everything, jumps on everything and claws our shoes and couches as well as curtains.

We have cat toys for her, scratching posts and a cat tree. She loves for us to throw paper balls for her ti catch and chase but we cannot always sit there and throw these for her.

Does anyone know of a good cat tree, with many levels or interactive safe cat toys that we could use that would entertain her when we cannot at that moment?

I live in Canada so we have Walmart, Costco, Petsmart and Petcetera.

I agree with the empty box, also an empty department store shopping bag weighted down inside with old magazines is great fun for my kitty. If you have the time, the best toy we have found is a laser light! It is hilarious to watch him follow it and run after it.
